Falling Star Academy is set on a man-made island, which is quite large. With it's various types of land and climates, it is able to host a wide variety of Pokemon from several regions making it an ideal place for people who want to become a trainer, but don't quite have the confidence or motivation to explore an entire region. The many different biomes allow one to do plenty of exploration while not having to go very far, and will hopefully get them used to the idea of actually traveling through a region one day. The most notable feature of the island itself is that it is actually in the shape of a five-pointed star. Valeria Saren, who established the Academy and serves as the headmistress, named it "Falling Star Academy" because she likes to think of the academy as a place that grants the wishes of its various students...just like how people occasionally make a wish when they see an actual falling star.
In what is known as the Central Area, the main school building and staff dormitories are located. With the possible exception of the Alpina Ruins, the school is easily the largest building on the island. A Pokemon Lab is also located here, and is it there that students will go to receive their starter Pokemon.
There are also five dorms, each one representing one of the five Japanese elements, and located in a different area of the island. There's the Air Dorm to the north, the Water Dorm to the south, the Fire Dorm to the east, the Earth Dorm to the southeast, and, finally, the Void Dorm to the southwest.

Elizabeth trudged up the mountain, looking around. This was where she had met Brittney, who, in all honesty, Elizabeth wasn't quite sure why she took with her. Brittney didn't seemed to have any idea how to deal with her, and Elizabeth was still trying to figure out how to deal with Brittney herself. As a matter of fact, for having done nothing more than explore the island for a few days, the days she had been here, she was surprised at how many Pokemon she had now. Her team had doubled, and she wasn't quite sure how. She sighed and sat down, glancing backward to watch Charles, her charmander, finish plodding up to reach were she was.
Charles, part way to her, paused to stop to talk to a Rufflet that was perched on a tree branch. It was a short conversation, Elizabeth had no idea what was said, but it ended with the Rufflet flying up in a huff, and Charles looking irritated, though it quickly passed, and he finished his trek to her, and waited, as if you ask her what she was doing sitting down when he was already to go. She looked and him and frowning, huffing, "You, are ungratefully, you know that? I waiting for you." She told him. He just stood there, waiting for her to get back up, like he knew she wanted too.

Elizabeth sighed and climbed back to her feet. Whatever. They headed off again, Charles slowly falling behind bit by bit again, until Elizabeth paused to wait for him again. He continued his steady pace up to her, not bothering to speed up in the slightest. If Elizabeth didn't want to have to wait for him, she could just walk slower. Over head a Wingull flapped by. Elizabeth sat down on the ground as Charles reached her, apparently unwilling to give up the battle of stubbornness that Charles was willing to have with her. Unfortunately Charles didn't fall for the bait, and just calmly sat down next to her. She frowned at him, then sighed, and just leaned backwards into the grass.
