Falling Star Academy is set on a man-made island, which is quite large. With it's various types of land and climates, it is able to host a wide variety of Pokemon from several regions making it an ideal place for people who want to become a trainer, but don't quite have the confidence or motivation to explore an entire region. The many different biomes allow one to do plenty of exploration while not having to go very far, and will hopefully get them used to the idea of actually traveling through a region one day. The most notable feature of the island itself is that it is actually in the shape of a five-pointed star. Valeria Saren, who established the Academy and serves as the headmistress, named it "Falling Star Academy" because she likes to think of the academy as a place that grants the wishes of its various students...just like how people occasionally make a wish when they see an actual falling star.
In what is known as the Central Area, the main school building and staff dormitories are located. With the possible exception of the Alpina Ruins, the school is easily the largest building on the island. A Pokemon Lab is also located here, and is it there that students will go to receive their starter Pokemon.
There are also five dorms, each one representing one of the five Japanese elements, and located in a different area of the island. There's the Air Dorm to the north, the Water Dorm to the south, the Fire Dorm to the east, the Earth Dorm to the southeast, and, finally, the Void Dorm to the southwest.

A pair of sapphire orbs gazed through the vast jungle as Ryan made his way through the narrow path. Stillman, his muted Froakie rested against his trainer's right shoulder as he keep his keen eyes opened for any wild Pokémon that might attempt to attack his trainer. Ryan had decided to leave his dorm in hopes of doing a bit of research on the unique Water Pokémon that could be found within the depths of the jungle. A gentle shower of rain drizzled through the tropical jungle, tiny drips of rain dripping down Ryan's bare upper body. "This little shower is quite refreshing, wouldn't you agree?" He asked him frog Pokémon, slowly turn his face toward the Froakie. Stillman simply smiled and nodded his head in agreement. It wasn't too long after that, that the duo found themselves standing in front of a wide river. "Perfect, there should be tons of water Pokémon living around here." He grinned, scanning over the flowing river.

While his sapphire orbs continued study the flowing river, Ryan's eyes would soon found themselves focusing in onto a petite Water/Bug Pokémon skating gracefully across the running river. "Would you like at that Stillman, it's a Surskit." He pointed out with a small smirk spread across his lips. He would then take out his Pokedex and allow it to scan over the unique Pokémon. "Surskit, the Pond Skater Pokémon. Surskit inhabits ponds, rivers, and similar wetlands. They move about as though there are skating the water surface." The Pokedex informed the trainer, which only caused Ryan's desire too capture the Pokémon increase.
"Stillman, let's catch us a Surskit, use Hydro Pump!" He commanded, hoping to make this battle a quick one. The Froakie swiftly leaped off of his trainer's shoulder and fired a high powerful blast of water toward the direction of the skating Surskit. The Surskit dodged the high powered water attack effortlessly by using his speed and grace. A flash of white light would then engulf the Surskit's body as he jetted toward Stillman with his amazing speed, which seem to have been boosted by the effect" of the rain. The Quick Attack rammed into Stillman quite hard, knocking the frog Pokémon out of the air and down onto the ground. "Impressive, this one is a speedy one." He smirked, watching as Stillman recovered himself. He knew that in order to defeat this speedy opponent it would have to think of something clever to overcome its speed. "Double Team!" The Froakie didn't waste any time making clones of himself, hoping to through the Surskit off of his guard a bit. The Surskit stared at both Stillman and his clones, trying his best to find the true Froakie. Taking a chance, the Surskit would send forward a raging Bubble Beam, hoping to hit the real Froakie. Luckily for Stillman, the Surskit only hit one of his clones.
"Bounce!" Stillman and his clones would all leap high into the air, waiting for the perfect moment to come back down to strike the Surskit. Meanwhile, the Surskit would start to panic a bit from the images of about three Froakie's surrounding him in midair. Feeling a bit overwhelmed, the Surskit would attack with a Sticky Web, which would only decrease Ryan's Pokémon speed if he decided to switch out in battle. After a few seconds, Stillman and his clones would attack the Surskit, drilling the Pokémon into the ground. Seconds later, the Surskit laid on the ground with swirls in his eyes. Taking out an empty Pokeball, Ryan would take this chance to capture the Surskit.

A satisfied smirk curved against Ryan's lip as soon as he noticed the shaking red and white sphere come to a halt. "We did it, we capture the Surskit." He stated, slowly walking over to retrieve the Pokeball, attaching it to his belt. "Welcome to the team Zephyr. You're going to make an awesome addition to our team."he added, his smirk growing in size now. "Nice job Stillman, I know that it wasn't easy taking down that speedy Surskit, but you proven yourself extremely well." he spoke to his Froakie, who simply smiled back at him before hopping back onto his right shoulder. "Let's do a little more exploring before returning to the dorm." He suggested, walking further down the path. This time, instead of catching another Pokémon, the duo would just enjoy the tropical jungle before leaving to return back to the Water Dorm.
