Here are some answers to a few questions that people have been asking, as well as a few that I know someone will (probably) ask eventually.
Q) I have a question about <insert whatever>. Who is the main admin of this site? A) That would be me (as in the one who posted this FAQ in the first place). Of course, the other admins and mods should be able to answer any questions you might have (or at least direct it to me), so don't hesitate to ask either of them if I'm not around.
Q) So what is this site, exactly? A) Basically, it's a Roleplaying site, set at a school...kinda like the one on Yugioh GX. Only, instead of a card game, it centers around Pokemon. Here, students who are either too lazy or not confident enough to go on a journey across an entire region can learn the basics of being a trainer, and have the experience of traveling and raising Pokemon without actually having to go too far.
Q) Can I start with <insert Pokemon>? A) As long as it's not listed as being rare, uncommon or outright banned, then sure. Knock yourself out. Q) Why is <insert Pokemon> rare/restricted? A) The short answer; because I said so. The actual answer; mostly for balancing and lore-related reasons. The simple fact is some Pokemon are too OP to be freely given out. And in the case of uncommon Pokemon, we felt that they weren't quite special enough to justify listing them as rare, but also aren't quite unspecial enough to be readily handed out as starters; this was the compromise I came up with.
Q) Do I have to start at the lab? A) Not at all. It's there for RP purposes, but the lab is hardly a requirement for obtaining your starters. It can be assumed that your character has already claimed their starters once you start RPing. In fact, we'd prefer it if you did; lab threads tend to pile up rather quickly.
Q) Can my Pokemon start with anything other than their basic moves? A) You may give each of your starters one Egg Move in place of one of the four moves they start with. Also, if you forego giving your Pokemon an Egg Move, you won't be able to turn around and decide to give them one after your profile's been accepted. So make extra sure you know what you want.
Q) What about Held Items? Can they start with one? A) No, they cannot.
Q) Does this site have Fakemon? A) If I can find someone willing/able to create sprites for them, I wouldn't mind introducing some "regional variants" found only on the island at some point. But that's gonna a be a long ways off, and that will be the extent of it. As far as entirely new Pokemon altogether are concerned, the answer is a firm "no".
Q) Can I play as a Pokemon? A) Not that I have anything against it or those who enjoy such RPs, but no, you can't. This simply isn't that type of site.
Q) What about Pokemorphs? A) Same deal here; nothing against them, but it won't be allowed here.
Q) Is there a limit to how many threads I can be in? A) You're only allowed to be in one catching thread at once per character. Other than that, there's no limit...so long as you can keep up with all of them.
Q) Can we play as characters from the games/anime/manga? A) No. This is an AU setting, and, therefore, none of the major events from the series happened, and most of the characters don't exist. You can, however use them as face claims if you want. I might silently judge you for being unoriginal though.
Q) I'm in the <insert dorm>, which is represented by <insert types>. Does that mean I can only catch Pokemon of those types. A) That would be dumb, so the answer is no. The types for each dorm only pertain to your Primary Starter.
Q) Can I use <insert random character> as my character's face claim? A) You can use any character for a face claim so long as they are from an anime, video game or a western series that's done in an anime-like style (such as Avatar or RWBY). If you're unsure about a potential face claim, get a hold of someone on the staff and we'll let you know what we think.
Q) What about original art? A) So long as it meets the "anime/anime-like" criteria, original artwork is perfectly acceptable. Just make sure no one else is using the same art and be sure to credit the artist if you aren't using your own artwork; preferably by including a link to their account for whatever they use to post their art, be it deviantart, pixiv, twitter or tumblr. Also, please be sure that the artist is okay with other people using their art/characters for something like this.
Q) Can I use a real-life celebrity for my faceclaim? A) No offense to those who like using them, but I personally can't stand celebrity FCs. So the answer is no.
Q) Does my character have to have a face claim? A) Personally speaking, I'd very much prefer it if they did. However, I'm well aware that not everyone likes them. So, to put it simply, they are encouraged, but far from required. You're more than welcome to simply write up a physical description of your character, if that is what you prefer.
Q) Will Psychics and Aura users be allowed? They are canon, after all. A) Sorry to say, but I'm afraid they won't. While it's true that they are an established part of the lore, there's too much potential for abuse, and their overall capabilities are somewhat ill-defined. Frankly, I don't feel up to messing with them. Maybe I'll change my mind some time down the road, but for now, it's a solid "no".
Q) Can my character be exceptionally strong, physically fit, etc? A) As long as it's within reason, then sure. I don't wanna see anyone pulling some DBZ/Fist of the North Star shit, though.
Q) Can I make an account with a pair of twins acting as a single "character"? A) We won't stop you, but you'll probably be better off simply finding someone else who'd be willing to play one of the siblings, as you'll still be held to the same limits and constraints as everyone else; i.e., six Pokemon to a team (meaning each sibling only gets three), and only one of them will be allowed to claim any event prizes. So...if you're fine with that, then knock yourself out.
Q) Are you out of your mind? Why are the pseudo-legendaries selectable starters? A)There are two major reasons for this; the first is because in their base forms, the pseudos aren't really any stronger than any other base-form Pokemon. Hell, Beldum is outright terrible, only being able to learn one move by level-up, and a whopping three moves via tutor. The second is that, while they are powerful once they fully evolve, they're far from unstoppable. Garchomp may be a powerhouse, but this doesn't make it any less vulnerable to a Lapras with Ice Beam or Hail + Blizzard. Nevertheless, we're not ignoring how powerful they are, hence why you only get one starter if you choose one of them, and the fact that they are otherwise considered rare.
Q) I want to be a Coordinator. How will Contests work on here? A) Honestly, I don't really know. I'm planning on leaving most of that up to whoever makes the Coordinator Teacher position. Of course, I will have final say in what kind of system(s) will be implemented. For now, however, I'm afraid you're just gonna have to be patient and wait.
Q) Why call the dorm supervisors "Wardens"? It makes the dorms sound like a prison. Wouldn't "Advisers" or something else along those lines be more fitting? A) The "official" reason: The Headmistress thought "Warden" sounded cool.
The actual reason: I had a brain-fart and didn't think of the name "Adviser" until after someone else pointed it out. By then I had already posted all the info for them, and I didn't feel like changing it.
Q) What do the uniforms look like? I don't see anything anywhere. A) That was actually something I had kept meaning to take care of, and kept getting sidetracked. In the end, I've decided I'm going to be lazy and take the Soul Eater NOT route...or, for those of you unfamiliar with that series, basically, there are multiple styles of uniform available for students to choose from. The only requirement is that they wear one with one of their dorm's colors. That said, this does not mean they can just show up to class in a t-shirt and shorts, claiming it's a uniform. The staff will probably know.
Q) What games are we following in terms of movesets? A) For level-up and Egg moves, it's going to be whatever that specific Pokemon most recently appeared in. If it's in Scarlet/Violet, then use that; otherwise, default to the last game they appeared in. As far as TMs for Pokemon who don't appear in Scarlet and Violet, if they've, at any point throughout the franchise, been capable of learning that move, then they're compatible with the TM. You may also feel free to make a case for any other moves you think they should be able to learn, but I guarantee nothing. Moves like Tera Blast that can be taught to any Pokemon can, of course, also be taught to those as well.
Q) Will the new Pokemon from Legends Arceus (Hisuian Forms, etc) be allowed? A) Yes, actually. Had this been before Scarlet and Violet came out, I would have (very reluctantly) said no. But since they're going to be available via HOME (and thus have actual movesets compared to the extremely limited ones they had in Legends Arceus), they shall be allowed. In-universe, my explanation for them being around is as followed; due to some time distortion-related shenanigans, some species of Hisuian Forms were somehow able to stumble into the present and were discovered by some scientists. Then, though countless months of study and a concentrated breeding effort, said scientists were able to restore them to a level at which they could thrive in the wild. They were also able to recreate the items, which were long thought gone, that allow Ursaring and Scyther to evolve into Ursaluna and Kleavor, respectively. Still referred to as Hisuian Forms in remembrance of Sinnoh's past, they now live and thrive in present-day Sinnoh, and have likewise migrated onto Falling Star Island itself. So yeah...that's the AU I'm going with, and I'm sticking to it.
Anyways, that's all that comes to mind right away. If you have any other questions, don't be afraid to ask.
