Obviously, in order to build a team, one needs to add Pokemon to it. After all, that's one of the most basic elements of the entire series...obtaining a Pokemon so you can train it to become stronger. As such, there are three main ways to obtain Pokemon on this site.
1) Catching it with a Poke Ball. Basically, what you do is start a catching thread, and wait for a mod to make a Pokemon appear. Said mod will list of the Pokemon's moves and Ability...but that's it. Here, catching threads are done in a "Solo" style, meaning that everything that transpires in the thread once the Pokemon appears is up to the one doing the thread. It can be an epic battle, or a heartwarming moment in which a bond is formed. Either way, it will be up to you how to go about catching it. If the mod doesn't see anything wrong, with it, then they'll accept it and allow the capture to take place.
However, if you dislike the Pokemon that appears, then you may pass on it and request that another one show up. This can be done twice, meaning you can encounter up to three Pokemon per catching thread. If you encounter a third Pokemon, you must interact with it in some way, regardless of whether or not you plan on capturing it. Whichever Pokemon you decide interact with and/or capture, the thread will immediately end, meaning you cannot battle/catch a Pokemon, then move on to encounter another.
In any case, there are some minor rules when it comes to catching threads. The first being that you can only do two threads per week. The second is that you can't do more than one at the same time. This is largely to make things easier for the mods, as well as prevent spamming for free TP. Anyways...yeah. That's about it for catching threads.
2) Events/Mission rewards. During certain events and in some missions, Pokemon may be given out. That's...pretty much all there is to it. Next!
3) From other trainers. It can be in a trade, or you can find someone who's willing to give a Pokemon of theirs away...or maybe even sell one. In any case, there's only one rule for this sort of thing. You are not allowed to trade/give away/sell a Pokemon to one of your own characters. It must be someone else.
In any case...yeah. That's about it. However you decide to add to you team is up to you. So long as I don't catch you trying to add a Pokemon to your PC that you shouldn't have, I don't think there will be any trouble in this regard.
